I tend to design a lot at night because inspiration seems to flow more freely. Sometimes I wonder what the theory behind this is but i’m sure my guess is as good as yours. For starters, Lagos can be quite a rowdy place and the pressures of daily living might seem to wear one down during the day. However, at night, there is a psychological feeling of peace and quiet you get even if you’ve been locked indoors all day.

One interesting theory is this concept of dark mode. The reduction in light levels calms the nerves and allows for more concentration. This is why a lot of user experience architects now include dark modes as an integral part of their ux process. Now this one might be a bit of a stretch in the area of theories, but I have a feeling that high UV light levels interfere with concentration.

Phone keeps buzzing
Lastly, during the day, a lot of things compete for brain power. Your phone is constantly buzzing. You think about your next meal. You want to reply to an email. The list is endless. But at night, it is just you and your screen. Some of the most groundbreaking work we have achieved in the past have been conceptualized in a few hours at night.
Well to conclude, I believe it is best to see what works for you and to maintain a decent work life balance. I certainly don’t work late into every night. I infact hardly ever do. But when I need to get the creative juices flowing, I opt for the night owl in me.
